Mallnitz is located at 1200 meters above sea level in a high valley south of the main alpine ridge, embedded in the impressive mountains of Hohe Tauern. Guided nature hikes lead by specialists for botany, zoology, water, culture and geology in the national park with an estimated size of 10,000 hectares help you "see with a different set of eyes".

Those who prefer the higher mountain region of Hohe Tauern, will find approximately 150 kilometres of interesting hiking trails at an altitude between 1200 and 3200 meters above sea level around the alpinist village of Mallnitz.
Well labelled paths lead to operated refuges where a hearty snack is a nice reward for your hard work. The Ankogel alpine cable car makes your ascent into the world of cragged rocks, blooming alpine meadows and rare plants and animals easier. Down to your whim, choose from tours with hiking times ranging from two to seven hours.

In December, the Carinthian mountain village at high altitude (1,200 m) is transformed into a wintry fairy tale. Seemingly endless winter hiking trails lead into the untouched mountain idyll of the largest national park of central Europe into the snowy valley of the Hohe Tauern range.

Winter sports enthusiasts can expect perfect conditions here. The cross-country tracks around Mallnitz are among the best Carinthia has to offer. For their superior quality, Mallnitz was the first resort to be awarded the "quality certificate for cross-country tracks". The relevant characteristics for the award were the idyllic location of the tracks in two of the most picturesque valleys of the Hohe Tauern national park, the excellent maintenance and many variations.

It goes without saying, that alpine skiers equally find excellent conditions here. Austria's no. 1 winter pastime originated here in the Hohe Tauern range. Ankogel is the "local mountain" of the winter resort and is considered one of the most snow-sure mountains in Carinthia. The cable car leads from the valley at 1,287 m to 2636 metres above sea level in 2 sections. With approximately 30 km of slopes, Ankogel is an ideal, not overly busy family ski resort. It is especially popular for its guaranteed snow, superior slopes and attractive ski terrain.
